The Original Lobster Rope Doormats
This innovative doormat is handwoven in Down East Maine with authentic float-rope used by lobstermen to tether their lobster traps. Unfortunately, float-rope can entangle whales, so Maine lobstermen are now required to replace their float-rope with "sink-rope". The old float-rope is being turned in, and rather than being dumped into landfills, the rope is being recovered and recycled into these unique doormats from Down East.
Virtually indestructible, these mats, also known as "Doormats of the DownEast", can withstand even the worst weather Mother Nature can throw at them. Each doormat is resistant to mold, mildew, salt water, and sun. They do not absorb water, nor harbor insects. Clean up is a snap, too. Just shake the mat out or hose it down - it's even quick-drying!
Each mat is colorful - in original colors used by genuine Maine lobstermen, and adds a cheerful and warm welcome to home, cottage, or camp. Perfect coastal decor, cottage decor, or nautical decor for porches, decks, doorsteps, garage - even for your boat, dock, or poolside.
Because each doormat from Down East Maine is handcrafted from the authentic Maine lobster float ropes that have been pulled from the Atlantic Ocean, no two are ever quite the same, so exact colors/tones and patterns cannot be guaranteed, and some float-ropes have multi-colored flecks within them. But, we've done our best to represent the colors we have available, and we're sure you will be delighted when you receive yours!
